But for now, let us give you a little taste of what’s gonna happen during the Holiday season..
Our best and biggest market in and around Noordwijk is the Wintermarket.
This market, located in the main shopping street just five minutes from the Piggie Beach Hostel, will be here from the 18th up to and including the 23rd of December.
Go back in time and find yourself nice and warm next to one of the many fire pits while enjoying the lovely soft voices singing Christmas songs in the background, Old wooden market stalls with various Christmas goodies, and of course there will be free Glühwein and live entertainment everyday!
Have you seen and done it all and want to do something different and sportive? Join the Santa Run! This year on the 21st of December here in Noordwijk, and everybody is invited. There are two different distances you can pick if you decide to join the run.
To join the Santa Run go to: http://www.kerstrun.nl/inschrijven.html and sign up!
At the Santa Run you’ll have to pay €5,- to sign in, but in return you will receive a fruit drink and a free ticket for ice skating at Noordwijk’s Wintersquare. Also 50% of the money will go to a good charity called Zinloos Geweld, which means Senseless Violence.
Of course there are many prizes to win! And the first prize is an annual pass for a ‘total wellbeing centre’ Azzurro!
Anyways, there will be lots of winners! Make sure you’re one of them by dressing up originally, or being really fast, or both! If you aren’t either of those two, maybe lady luck might help you be picked for the 10 Lucky Numbers (these will be chosen by a jury picking the numbers of the runners).
What’s the highpoint of a good winter? Of course! It’s building a snowman! On the 29th of December from 13.00 to 15.00 underneath the Lighthouse and near the Flying Pig Beach Hostel is the one spot the whole of Holland will be sure to have snow!
With this snow, children from 0 till 12 years, are going to build hundreds of the most beautiful/ original/ strangest/ funniest snowmen you have ever seen, with hope they will be Holland’s next Snowman Building Champion! Maybe you can join and help some of the kids out?
Even more awaits you here in Noordwijk during the Holiday season, but that is still a surprise, wait and see..

Leiden is a historical Dutch City, located 10 km North East of The Flying Pig Beach Hostel. The city of Leiden is intersected by numerous canals and it is primarily for this reason that Leiden is said to resemble Amsterdam. The city is home to a wealth of museums, gardens, windmills and historical points of interest.
Leiden is famous around the world as the birthplace of the famous artist Rembrant, commonly regarded as one of the greatest painters to have been born in Europe, and the most significant in Dutch history. As a boy the famous artist Rembrant was a student at Leiden University, which is still open today, and attracts students from all over Europe who help to keep the vibe of the city balanced somewhere between youthful and historical. To cater for the students the city has a good selection of bars and nightclubs.
Coffeeshop
A coffeeshop is a an establishment where the sale of weed and hash for personal use is tolerated by the local authorities. Coffeeshops are more common in the Netherlands than anywhere else in the world. In the Netherlands the sale of weed and hash, although illegal, is not punished, and the law not enforced as long as consumers do not carry more than 5grams . Most coffeeshops also sell hash cakes, hot and cold drinks, and snacks.
There are ten or so coffeeshops dotted around the centre of town and they are all of similarly good standard. The weed and hash they sell is as good, and cheaper than in Amsterdam.
It is important to note that the opening hours of Leiden’s coffeeshops are restricted to 4 pm - 10 pm.

The dunes are less than a mile away from the Flying Pig Beach Hostel and mountain bikes and biking equipment can be hired from the specialist cycle outlet, which is located 100 yards behind the hostel.
