The Atlantikwall Museum is a truly amazing exhibition of WWII military memorabilia and an underground maze of tunnels, military bunkers, cannon bunkers, observation decks, and mesh grenade nets encased in 3 metre thick bomb proof concrete walls that were built by German troops occupying Noordwijk in WWII.
Similar bunkers were built all the way along the western coastline of Europe; stretching from the French-Spanish border and up into Norway. This extensive system of coastal fortifications, constructed by the German army, was known as the Atlantikwall, and consisted primarily of batteries, bunkers, and minefields. The protective wall was never totally completed, and only a few bunkers have survived into the 21st century, one of which is in Noordwijk!
Sunday is the only day that you can visit the museum or tour the bunkers, so be sure to call ahead as the Museum is very popular, especially in peak season. The entrance to the museum and bunkers is only a three minute walk from hostel, turn right out of the front door and head toward the edge of the sand dunes.
OPEN: Sundays Only
